Snow Plow & Street Sweeper

Please remember not to shovel snow, ice or mud from your sidewalk or driveway on to the street or alley, this makes it harder for vehicles to pass and increases the time it takes for the roads to clear. The renter, homeowner, or business owner is required to remove snow and ice on ALL SIDEWALKS surrounding the property, including avenue corner lots, within 24 hours of the last snowfall.

Snow Plow Routes

The City does not recommend parking on the following streets if a snowstorm is expected:
- Snow will be pushed and built up to the north and south. -
20th Ave. between Sheridan Blvd. and Pierce St.
22nd Ave. between Sheridan Blvd. and Pierce St.
24th Ave. between Sheridan Blvd. and Pierce St.
25th Ave. between Sheridan Blvd. and Marshall St.
26th Ave. between Sheridan Blvd. and Pierce St.
- Snow will be pushed and built up in center of street. -
Harlan St. between 20th Ave. and 26th Ave.

Edgewater crews work to keep the roads as clear as possible during a snowstorm. This includes plowing roads several times over the course of the storm. The priority of plows is to keep traffic flowing by diverting the snow out of the traffic lanes. This can result in piles of snow at the end of driveways called windrows. This is unavoidable as it is related to the amount of snow and it is not done intentionally. The city does not clear windrows, but thanks all residents for clearing snow and helping neighbors.

What is the Snow Angels Program?

Snow-covered sidewalks can be hazardous for everyone. The City of Edgewater's Snow Angels Program pairs older residents and residents with disabilities with nearby neighbors who volunteer to assist them with snow removal on their sidewalks and walkways.

Along with fostering stronger community relationships and relieving some of the stress that comes from a snowfall or freeze, Snow Angels make our sidewalks safer for those who are outside during the winter weather, like postal carriers, firefighters, police officers, and other neighbors.

Volunteer to become a Snow Angel

What to Know Before Signing Up to Volunteer as a Snow Angel:

  • You will be assigned to a neighbor in need who lives no more than a 10-minute walk from your address - we try to place neighbors and close to home as possible.
  • We will contact you via email with confirmation details when you have been assigned a neighbor.
  • You may not be assigned to help a neighbor immediately. Neighbors request help throughout the winter season. You may be assigned immediately, a few weeks after you sign up, or later during the winter.
  • Your assignment depends on if a neighbor near you needs help. If none of your neighbors sign up, we may not be able to assign you. Either way, we will keep in touch!
  • We require that you help out your neighbor as soon as you are able and within 24-hours of the end of a snow event.
  • Sometimes more than one neighbor who requests help live in the same block. If you’re willing to help shovel for more than one neighbor, please let us know on your sign-up form (below).
