Water & Sewer

2023 Sewer Line Inspection:

The city is working with a contractor to inspect and clean City owned sanitary sewer main lines. The contractor will be working in alleys starting on April 17, 2023. This is done to provide optimal flow and lessen the chances of major backups. The cleaning is a non-invasive maintenance process that only affects City owned sewer lines. Sewer usage will not be disrupted unless there are unforeseen circumstances, and you will be notified.

Edgewater Sewer Rate Correction

Every month Edgewater customers receive a bill for water and sewer services. The rates pay for water that the City Of Edgewater purchased from Denver Water and sewer processing by Metro Water Recovery.

Since sewer volume cannot be measured, the sewer usage rate is based on 1,000 gallons of water used in December. Recently the City discovered that the billing system had the correct billing rate but was using a past December water reading instead of the December 2023 reading.

The City is adjusting the billing to reflect the correct December 2023 water amount used to set the sewer usage rate.

For most utility customers, the reading in December does not change much year-to-year. For example, if 1,000 gallons of water were used in December 2022 and in December 2023, the bill would stay the same. If more water was used there would be an increase based on the current Sewer Usage rate of $5.88 per 1,000 gallons. If less water was used, a credit would be issued for this year, as of March 1st, 2024, when the rates were initially going to change. View the sewer rate table below under Sewer Rates.

Timeline for corrections:

  • City Manager to notify City Council of rate correction 6/21/24
  • Corrected current sewer usage to be updated in July & August’s utility billing.
  • Communications department to add online notification to Edgewater website.
  • The city will begin applying refunds (as a credit) on the utility billing beginning the month of July 2024.

If you have questions about this correction, please reach out to Penny Mays at 720-763-3060.

Keep our Water Clean
Got Hazardous Waste?

Saving water is easy; it just requires some extra attention to your usage:

  • Consider limiting showers to one per person per day.
  • Turn the water off while brushing your teeth.
  • Keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator instead of letting the faucet run while the water gets cool.
  • Install new aerators on your faucets for more efficient flow and replace existing sprinkler heads with more efficient models.
  • Look at energy-efficient appliances and water systems

For saving on outdoor water usage:

  • Water during cooler times of the day — lawn watering is not allowed between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Water no more than three days per week.
  • Do not allow water to pool in gutters, streets and alleys.
  • Do not waste water by letting it spray on concrete and asphalt.
  • Repair leaking sprinkler systems within 10 days.
  • Do not irrigate while it is raining or during high winds.
  • Use a hose nozzle with a shut-off valve when washing your car.
